my speedometer doesnt work. i bought it off of a friend for $500 so i guess thats what i get. it worked before he had the transmission replaced. the cable is also new. it is a 1990 4x4 2.9l ford ranger xlt. i have no idea what could make it not work so any help will be appreciated thanks.
well i could but i dont really think there wil be any damage considering he had the tranny replcaed and that he only put maybe another 300 miles since he only did some in town and next town over driving.
Heres how it works on my 87. The vehicle speed senor plugs into the side of the transmission & the speedometer cable plugs into the VSS. If the cruise control AND the speedometer are both not working it means that the gear on the VSS is broken.
well the cable goes into the sensor but what happened when i took off the old on is a little piece came off that wass shaped like the tip of the spedo cable came off and a little plastic gear like thing that the sensor plugs into came out. i can spin the cable and sensor free hand and it works the speedometer but when it comes to plugging it into the tranny thats a different story.
If you're saying that the plastic gear is broken, count the number of teeth on it & you should be able to get a new one at the dealer. I'm pretty sure that this is a dealer only part.
