Brake pads

Can anybody tell me the difference in Motorcraft Preferred value line brake pads and genuine Motorcraft brake pads other than the price? Is there truely a difference in the feel, noise, wearability, stopping ability, etc. between the 2?

Are they both from the dealer? I've not heard of different pads offered at the dealer.
If there is a price difference, they are probably made of different materials. But I can't speak to what types are in those particular parts.

Search this forum for other types of pads. Some people are saying good things about some newer types of materials.

Oh yeah, beware of the $50 Motorcraft pads! They're extremely dusty and the dust is destructive to the clear coat of the wheels. I had them for about a year and a half and had to clean the wheels at least every other week to prevent further damage. I finally replaced them again 2 months ago (not because they were worn out but because of the damage to the finish of the wheels) with NAPA ceramics. Brake dust is nearly eliminated but the dust that does collect on the wheels is minimal and not damaging the finish. It took me nearly an hour on each of the front wheels to polish out the brake dust from the Motorcraft pads. There are still some spots that didn't come out but it's not to bad. Don't buy the low end pads.
