This note popped up in my message center 5 days ago. I was less than half a mile from the Ford dealer when it appeared. Gauges were good so I drove to the dealership. They ran a diagnostic on it and said it was faulty software involving the throttle by wire system. They claim they loaded in an updated version of the software.
Today it happened again about 1 hour before the dealer closed. I dropped off my '05 screw 5.4L (2700 miles)at the dealer and was given the only remaining rental car--a Mercury Villager. I hate mini-vans.
Has anyone else had this experience?
After the alert sounded and the message appeared, the engine began to run rough, accelerations were not as smooth and shifts were abrupt.

I have had that happen 2 times in 12,000 miles. Never so close together though. Each time they did a re flash. It has been a few months since my last problem.
I had the same message, took it in and they did a re-flash. Two days later same problem. Went back to the dealership and they replaced something called the "throttle assembly" so far no more problems that has been about 1000 miles.
Same exact problem here. re-flash did not work. Had a new throttle body assembly put in. No problems since. This was almost a year ago. For some reason the dealer kept my truck till the part was in, so it may be unsafe. I hope you get a better rental than I did. I do not know how people can drive a taurus. especially with little kids!
I had a new computer gizmo put in mine at 82 miles. You all shouldn't complain. My loaner was called a Daewoo! I thought they made fishing equipment. Since I live in a Union household, Daewoo did not go over to well with my family.
