Can anyone tell me what the electrical sensor does on this hose on my '87 F-150? I had to use the hose from my '82 this weekend and it does not have the sensor. Can I run it like this or do I need to get the new hose with the sensor in it?
The sensors purpose is to inform the computer of power steering load on the engine. The computer then determines,by the RPM's,if the A/C clutch should be disengaged to lessen the load on the engine during low RPM maneuvers such as parking in a tight spot. The computer may also use this info. to adjust idle speed for other conditions, but it is no big deal.Glad to help!

I must be blind, but I can't see where this plug connects to the hose. My plug end appears to be broken (the clip busted off) and the wiring harness is dangling loose. Where does it plug?
TIA
Hey Doug,
the connector plugs into a sensor on the powersteering highpressure hose. If you have it, it would be several inches above the steering box on the HP hose. Someone may have replaced your hose with one that does not have a sensor. I did mine with a hose from my '82. Works fine for the PS, but my air doesn't work and i don't know if that is the reason or not.
hope this helps.
