I have a 1981 F-150 with a 302.
One morning I went out to go to work. The truck started and ran for about 20sec. then quit.
It has not ran for more then 2-5 sec. since.
I have put a new ingation module, roter, cap,
pick up coil and plugs in with no luck. I also had the carb rebuilt. The timing has been checked to the No.1 piston also Some times it seems that the spark gets weeker after a few turns of the moter.
Joe ,
Have you checked to make sure fuel is present . If you have spark , The next logical step is fuel. Sounds like a dead pump . Wouldnt hurt to change the fuel filter either if that hasnt been done for awhile .

You didn't mention plug wires in this post,so, i will say to change at least the coil wire if you haven't allready, but, then again, who's to say that the coil wire you changed wasn't terminated properly at the factory ! I say this cause it happened to me a couple of times over the years. I have a habit of looking down into the wire boots to verify the center core is still present, and, wrapped back underneath the terminal for all the wires before I install them. You really can't trust many parts these days so it's a live & learn kinda thing.

ps. You may want to rework all your grounds, especially the smaller ground wires coming off the main negative battery cable, as well all the connectors leading to the coil & distributor.
Go out to your garage with a buddy, when it's pitch black outside. Have your buddy turn the engine over, pay special attention to your spark plug wires, do not use light what so ever..... if you can see sparks flyin' out of the wires then they are obviously bad. I have an '82 F100 with a 300 and it would run decently, but it wouldn't start right away. So one night me and a buddy were out foolin' around with our trucks, and he said "FIRE IT UP!" so I did, with the hood open, when all of the sudden, I heard him say "SHUT THE DA*N THING OFF BEFORE YOU START A FIRE!" he then told me about the sparks flyin' out of the wires. Lucky for me the bulb was broken in the barn, or I might not have ever noticed..... Anyhow the next day I went to FOX and bought some new wires, and it ran like a dream!
One area that we don't often think of is the exhaust. Try dropping your exhaust at the manifold and see if it runs. It could be a blocked catalytic converter.
you got 2 tanks?
There might be a (nother) filter in the tank switching "solenoid" thingie...even tho its not a solenoid..just a pressure switchblock..
mine clogged like, NOW! no warning
the filter is not listed in any parts places..
Weak Coil, maybe? You might try running a jumper from the bat to the + coil terminal. It might be the resistor that steps down the coil voltage in the run position. My 2c.
