Tranny swap
I have a 84 F150 with 4.9L engine. The truck is a 4x4 and has the 4spd tranny with overdrive. The truck is in need of a new tranny, and a would like to put a automatic in. What is involved in doing this? Do I need a different length driveshaft? I know I can use a floor shifter. What about mounts? I was reading about having to have a new starter becasue the ones on manuals won't clear an auto trans. If this is true, will a starter of a truck with a 300 auto work? Thanks

From what I understand you will need the appropriate flexplate and starter, manual starter will not work.
Don't forget about a new mount. Driveshaft should be the same length, although the automatic shafts have the counterbalance wieght I think....
