Once again here I go asking for help. I have an issue with my manual tranny on in the 70 F100. Its either a three speed or four speed on the column. Problem is I cannot shift gears. The shifter is just limp and goes from top to bottom without catching any grip. I can change gears at the firewall by moving the linkage and it doesn't appear that there is anything broken from the firewall to the tranny. What's your thoughts on what could be wrong in the column. I have not taken this apart yet. Just throwing ideas out to the group.
Is there a resource on the net for taking apart the column shifter? Do I have to take the steering wheel off and work from there? I know it's a very noob question but I haven't worked with on the column shifters before. Thanks.
Josh, Try pulling the lever closest to the firewall up and see if it will get unjambed. That was common for the oldert trucks.
Should you get it freed up, try pulling the shift arm lever towards the steering wheel when coming out of 1st, let it fall towards the floor before shifting into 2nd.
Some folk will try to push directly from 1st to 2nd and it aint gonna happen. No speed shifting today. lol
I will do what you recommended with moving the lever. I believe it is the bushings though because the shifter is limp as a noodle. I will keep you updated.
