positive displacement

i have all ways thought that a screw type blower was the same thing as a root type blower. i thought it had two names. i was told there was a difference. is there a difference? if there is one, what is it? thanks. also i want supercharger for my 01 ford f150 with a 4.6l. i like the looks of the centicial blower made by procharger. i just keep hearing that i need a roots blower. any real reason why?

The shape of the rotors is the difference.
The twin screw is more efficient.
Centrifugal is most efficient.

Positive displacement types (twin screw and roots) makes boost constant throughout the rpm range.
Centrifugal blowers increase boost as rpm increases.

I think a twin screw would be best for a truck.

Oh crap here we go again. I don't *think* that a centrifugal is the most efficient. (Adibatic - thermal efficiency)

Edit: Here's the other thread discussing efficiency https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...light=adibatic

Linear versus helical lobes. Roots are linear, twin screw are helical.
