My daughter has recently inherited a 1953 F-250, which we are having shipped from Montana to California. The truck needs work - steering and brakes, and a good once-over from a mechanic we can trust to let us know what else it really needs.
Anyone know of a an honest truck mechanic in the Southern California (prefer Orange County) area that would know about this age Ford? Thanks!!
Ed is checking for me, he gave me a card for someone at the FTE meeting but I put it somewhere "safe" and can't find it now of course...
The local dealer recommended Fisk Automotive in Fullerton, but I'm still trying to find someone who is really into the trucks... hopefully, someone will have a name...
Tina I haven't forgotten about you. I'll ask tomorrow at the meeting. But also try this number Toll-Free 866-BLU-OVAL and ask for a mechanic in OC. They are a sponsor on the club site. http://pickupslimited.com/
Tina, Here is some feedback on the shops you mentioned. Hope this helps.
yea heard of fisk he did a brake job on my work van $485.00. front pads were $56.00 each. I pay $5.85 for them back brakes $14 for the pair . also said I need a rear brake drum at $90.00 . I have since done the job myself takes about hour and a half and not more than $50.00 in parts. Good reports an the shop in Placentia if it the one in old town.
why would you go to a dealer???????? I'm retired and wrench at home part time, but I'm about 30 miles north of the Orange curtain, I'm sure there must be and old Ford mechanic in your area that will do work way cheaper than a dealer...or maybe some of the guys here could check it out before you take it somewhere...shops love to see women come in $$$$$$$$$ just a thought, good luck

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try the fellow in Placentia if nobody has a better theory. I "think" they do restorations too - but when I looked back to the shop there were even boats there... hope they'll work, 'cause I need to let the driver know where he's going on Monday... funny, with weeks to do this you'd think I'd be better organized... but at least the truck will be here and we can finally take a real "look-see."
P.S. Highball - I did feel like a sheep in with the foxes when I was at the shops - but I was just asking the Ford dealers for a reference to a mechanic or shop that could work on the '53.
