HELP! Tierod issue

I need help figuring out what year this tierod is from. I got the axle from an F150, but I do not know what year it came from. I thought it was a 73-79, but when I got one of those tierods, it was different and would not bolt up (balljoint stud different diameter). Is this a 67-72 style or should I be looking for something else.

Is there a way I can use the 73-79 style tierod and draglink? The old one shown in the photos has the draglink connecting quite a ways inboard in comparison to the 73-79 style. I am lifting the truck considerably and am worried about steering angles.

Sorry for all the questions, but I am running out of time to get these parts together. Thanks for the help.

Chad

Just for more info incase someone can narrow down the vintage of my axles. I got a High Pinion D44 and ford 9" with 3.50 gears. The 9" seems to be big bearing and has the Daytona pinion support. They are from a 1/2 ton F150 4x4 with drum brakes front and rear. The front axle has balljoints and does not have sealed ujoints.

Thanks for any help.

Can you put some pics on the net? Or maybe some measurements? Shucks part numbers? Since I have no idea what truck, .5ton .75ton 1ton, or 2wd 4wd Awd you are talking about.

I do not have the truck, only the axles. That is my problem. I am using the axles for a project. All I do know is that the truck was a 1/2 ton F150 4x4. It is solid axle, therefore it is older than 1980. A 73-79 tie rod would not fit and looked different. That is why I am thinking it is a 67-72, but I do not know.

If I can get a picture of the axle, I will post it.

Thanks for the help sprocket. The old tierod I have is like yours, but flipped. The right is the long one and the left is short. I am thinking I am going to ream out the knuckles slightly to accept the 73-79 tierod I had. It does not need much, only about 1/8 inch. I don't see a problem as long as I can match the taper on the balljoint stud. What do you think?

Just to let you all know, I called the scrap yard I got the axle from and they said it is a '74. There were apparently multiple steering setups for it and this one is obsolete. I found a replacement at rare parts suspension (?) but it was twice as expensive as the 73-79 tierod I had before. I am going to just ream out the knuckles to accept the cheaper tierod. It will give me better steering angles anyways.
