I have a 1973 F250 Camper special with power steering....It has a new steering box, shocks and the wheel bearings have been repacked but it still wants to wander a lot. If I let go of the steering wheel it will not pull to one side. I would appreciate any suggestions!
Next thing to check would be the tie rod assembly. You can try to squeeze the tie rod ends together with a large pair of adjustable pliers. No movement should be noted. Also have a friend turn the wheel back and forth while you observe from underneath and look for slack or movement. The tie rod assembly can be obtained as a complete unit for less than $200 I think. I don't recall a good way to check the king pins off hand. Make sure the bearings are properly adjusted and the tires don't have unusual wear.
My '73 F100 2wd used to wander bad, untill I replaced the axle pivot bushings and the radius arm bushings. These bushings are what holds the front axle straight and play in the bushings let the axles move. I got poly bushings for $50 for both sets and spent a afternoon installing them. I noticed a huge difference on the road. Some people only replace the radius arm bushings, but the axle pivots get just as much wear as the radius bushings. And by the time you remove the radius arm bushings, it's just a couple more bolts to get to the pivots - definitely worth the extra work.
