drop axle on 55
Hi
we put a used drop axle with lowering springs on our 55
it came off a friends truck and he used it for years and worked OK
even with the motor out the front shackles are extended fully forward and the spring eyes are just a hair below the frame
have the springs sagged/elongated, do we need slightly longer than stock shackles or ???
any input appreciated

Assuming you've still got a standard set of springs and shackles with the drop axle, it sounds like a case of the sags. Take the spring packs apart (CAREFULLY!) and see if any of the leafs are broken or cracked. You should be able to get replacements made at a local spring shop. They can also re-arc any good leafs you currently have.
Another possibility is that someone has removed some leaves to lower the truck. A standard 55 F-100 should have an 8-leaf front spring pack (part number TAAA-5310-A). The heavy duty version had a 7-leaf pack (part number TBAA-5310-A).
