G'day, from Australia - I have an 80 model (australian) F350, soon to have a 460 transplant. Just wondering about gearbox compatabilities. Seem to have limited options here in Australia. C6 is the most common but would like to go manual. Appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Only new to the site - I enjoy it very much.
A ZF 5-speed is the easiest choice but there are OD auto trans out there but they need to have a computer in order for them to shift correctly. Known as the E40D trans.
I will be installing a ZF behind a 460 in a 78 bronco some time this summer.

Thanks for the info, still learning how to drive this space gadget. Saw on another post/thread a fella who is running a NP 435 in a 460. Whats your say? Also what is the general feeling about the gear vendors overdrives. Do you think they would handle the 460 horses. Going by the sites I've visited you blokes are light years ahead of us in Aus. Many thanks. zzmark
The gear vendor may be your easiest option but the most costly. I have read that the gear vendors can handle large amounts of HP. More than your 460 will ever be built for.
The 435 is most certainly an option and a very common trans behind the 351M/400 motor which shares the same bell housing pattern but have different flywheels. This would be the most straight forward manual swap you could do if you could get all the parts from a donor truck.
I'm use to people wanting an OD gear for better mpg and that's why I suggested the ZF. After reading your first post again you do not seem to be after an OD gear but then your second post asks about the gear venders unit which is an OD unit or can become some sort of gear splitter with out OD, I think.
If you're after an OD or 5th gear the ZF may be cheaper for you but it will require so fab work. The gear vendor unit will bolt in but is very exspensive. I just don't know what the ZF would cost you where your at.
