98 explorer rims have crackle pattern
My 98 Explorer XLT has the factory rims (15") still installed...they are the swirly kind with the lobes (for lack of a better description). When I first purchased my Explorer, they were in great condition. But after a few years of driving in various climates, the rims have taken on a crackled, webbish, brownish pattern...almost a patina, surrounding the central hub cover. I don't know if anyone else has had a similar issue, but I'd like to know if it's normal, or a manufacturer's defect. I've never seen this happend to other Explorers, and want to make sure that it's a Ford issue, and not how I treat the rims issue. I have also noticed that this has not occurred on the spare rim...it's never been used or taken off its under-vehicle mount.
