01 screw running ruff
Ignition coils seem to be a common problem on these engines so i was thinking one of the coils went bad and it may be running on 7 cylinders but wouldnt that make the engine light come on?
He went to have it scanned at autozone but without the light on it wont pull any codes. I know some cars will store codes even with the light off. Would this be the case for fords as well?
I was also thinking idle air control valve but not sure.
Its probably going to the dealer tommorow but i was trying to find a solution before he goes that route.
Thanks!
Your dealer can do a cylinder power balance test while driving to see which cylinder or cylinders are misfiring. I don't think that anyone else but the dealer has the capability to do that.
A bad IAC can cause a stall or surging idle but won't cause a miss or loss of power.
I just went through a bout of the same thing, and yes the service engine light does come on. The previous owner replaced the autolight plugs with champion...very bad. I had to use double plat. In addition to requiring new plugs, the rubber plug boots and spring connectors were warn out, cracks and pin holes. These caused the crossfire. I have an excellent mechanic, total cost was $350 p&l. The dealer service quoted me over $600. It is sure great to have a good mechanic you can count on.
