What is "dealer transfer fee"? And do all dealers have one?
I asked for all the "fees" and they are adding $194.50 dealer transfer fee. What the heck? Is this for real...or just this particular dealer adding cost to the vehicle? Kinda like the "special" undercoating scam from years past...
Here is what I got from the dealer...sound right???
The dealer transfer is charged by the dealership for processing all the
paperwork to include loan processing, registering the vehicle with mvd and
obtaining the plates and title, administration filing charges and thats about
it. All dealerships charge this fee within a couple of dollars and can only be
avoided by paying cash no lean holder.
ADP: Additional Dealer Profit. What they lose on the apples, they make up on the bananas. The Explorer Eddie Bauer is FREE, the ignition key is $35000, etc...
Just another way to hit the customer up for more $.

This deserves to go in the Stupid Things Your Dealer Said thread
down in the SD/HQ forum.
i wouldn't pay any of that to the dealer... tell them you'll pay your taxes on your own.... not to include it in the financing (if that is possible for you).... don't pay the registration and the other fee..... there are a TON of Ford Dealers out there..and all of them are desperate right now considering Ford's recent financial troubles (it trickles down)....... just tell them you'll take your business elsewhere unless they drop the fees....do so in a nice professional manner......
i was lucky enough to purchase my F150 through the X-plan where they are not allowed to charge documentation or advertising fees (any fees really)..... i was going to pay $300 for them to get the truck from another dealer 4 hours away but they botched it up and got the wrong truck... so they found another truck and didn't charge me the $300 to get that one... so i paid nothing but x-plan price minus my rebates/trade/and money down....i am paying my own taxes when i register the truck and so there weren't any registration or title fees etc.....
Well- not so simple. If the truck's financed, the dealer does the title and tax gig- period. Legally, in many states, you can't break those fees out of the contract (thank god we don't have sales tax in Orygun!). "Registration" is for the tags- has nothing to to with taxes (sales/road/use tax, depending on where you live). In Oregon that hoopla is $218.00 for four years, including the $50 doc fee.
not in arkansas... i paid nothing but x-plan minus rebates/trade/money down...
i am paying my own taxes, registration, title etc. fees when i got register the vehicle......
must be different in other states...
It sure is... You've also just explained why CarFax reports from the Left and Right Coasts are quite reliable, while things can get murky in the great middle of the country.
so what happens if i go buy my next vehicle from Jeff or you, unno outta state?.......i get the same deal right? tax, title, yada yada, etc.. is done where one registers the vehicle right?

Right. Except, of course, Washington and California, which have cross-border agreements with Oregon that we're quite familiar with. California, of course, adds the additional requirement that the vehicle be 50 state and/or California Emissions Certified unless the vehicle is used with over 7500 miles on it.
so your saying there is nothing that can be done about his 194.50 fee? I am curious, as i ordered an 05 350, and when i pick it up i will be trading my 250 in on it, and i want to transfer the tags and reg over. granted, i am in NJ so its a different situation then in your states, but what fees can the dealer legitimatly charge me? I dont plan on paying any except the $4.50 that the state of NJ would charge me to swap over the registration if i did it myself.
