Driveshaft Issues - Length and U-joint Type

So I slammed my 351w and matching C6 into my 78 F-150 Custom. Everything went in without a hitch. I did have to relocate the Transfer Case mount to the left frame rail but everything looks good. The transfer case is from a 79 Bronco and it looks like the u-joint on the tranny slip yoke is larger than the one that is on the driveshaft from the truck.

Question #1: Is there an easy way to mate this driveshaft and transfer case?
I suppose one option is replacing the output shaft with the one from the trucks original transfer case.

Question #2: What is the best way to measure for correct driveshaft length? I've heard many ides about this and thought I would give everyone a chance to chime in.

As always...thanks in advance for any help!

Shane

For the U-joint measure the distance across the yoke and the diameter of the caps on each side. You can buy a joint to fit from the parts store. If you have both U joints you can measure and compare.

For the driveshaft length check with your local driveline shop for the dimensions they need to make a driveshaft for you.

The front driveshaft off of the Bronco should fit on the F-150 with out a problem, but the u-joints were a bit different between the 2 years(79 a hair bigger), not to much though, but still differnet so you might need to use the yoke and u joint off of the truck or just use the truck drive shaft. The rear driveshaft from the truck should still work fine, as long as you replaced your transfer case with the same one (205 for a 205) (if 205 for a 203 new yokes might be needed, and possibly different shaft.

I had a non working 203 and got a 205 off a boneyard truck for $50 and I think I need new yokes and mabye even new shaft. I really don't like all those ideas. To expensive for me.

Good luck
