Dennis,
I'm not sure how many miles 480,000 KM is, but it sounds like a bunch. I hope my 460 lasts that long. I know this is off the subject of the thread, but is the shorter stroke of the 429 make it noticeably quicker than a 460, or are they about the same?

Thanks for the pic. I'll see what I can do tomarro, but I don't remember seeing a yellow female bullet tri-connector, but we'll see. I post in the morning when I look and check some connections.

Isn't that engine in your 78 F-150, if so, I bet it's served you well for many years, and by the looks of it many more.

The tri connector is part of the main 14401wiring harness, if it isn't there someone has cut it out.

Engine:
The 429 with a 2bbl puts out more bottom end torque than the 4bbl 429/460.

I get better mileage with the 4bbl due to the 2 smaller primary Venturi's.But if I punch it occasionally fuel economy suffers.

People with trailers or campers would better served with a 2bbl
for that getting out onto the highway than engine with 4 bbl's

What every the Km is times it by .6 to get Miles.

I put the 429 engine in the truck in 1990 , the truck had 319,000Km but the engine had well over 250,000 miles.

The only engine work I did was replace the exhaust valve's in 1990 and a set of valve seals last year.

It still runs strong using 1/2 litre of oil in 1500 miles from a leaking rear main

I checked the(yellow)conection you showed me, and the one on the speedo cable both are plugged in fine. If a picture would help ya'll to see what might be unpluged, I put one in my gallary, it should be the last one.

Does the horn work ?

While you're under there ..look at the black box on the firewall & see if both connectors are plugged into it.
There should be one brown one & another colour.

I have a wiring diagram IYNO.

"The P/O said he disabled or disconnected it"

You see how terminology can really screw things up.

What did he mean by that ?

The horn does not work, I think it is in the stering column that it is messed up, because the wire goes where it is suposed to and the wire going to the horn has no volts coming out of it whill pressing the horn. Someone told me it just lost its ground, would this be it? The cruise might be messed up in the column also, because he did some work in there to. I think the guy put a 80's model sterring wheel in it. If there is about a 1/2" gap between sterring wheel and column doesn't that mean the wheel came from a 80 up model?

All I know that he ment from disconecting it, was he did some work and had to disconect it and just didn't conect it back while putting things back together, because he didn't use it. I don't know if this was in the dash or in the column it's self.

I checked almost every connection I could see. The black one on the fire wall, the yellow female connecter, and the one on the speedo cable. I didn't see any wires undone to connect any back.

Thanks for all the help so far,
Matt

On a truck with cruise control, the Normal Horn Circuit (Big Yellow wire) becomes the power to the cruise buttons.

Have you checked the fuse for the horn ?

Can you take a pic of all the column wiring he messed with ?

Pictures of anything that is out of place .

You may be right about not having a fuse

In your pic in the upper left , that silver box with 3 prongs is your horn relay.
