I have a question, I plan to do the follwoing changes on my '90 F150 I6 5Sp 4wd
Ford 8.8 w/ 3.55 --> 4.10 ($200) (possibly LSD $375)
Dana 44 IFS w/ 3.54 --> 4.10 w/ new carrier ($275)
Does anyone have any experience in this? About how long does it take, problems, experiences, ABS problems???
You're paying a lot of money for that LS diff. Summit sells the Ford Motorsport 31 spline Trac-Lok for the 8.8 (Summit P/N FMS-M4204F318) for $249.95. Also what tires are you running? 4.10 is a lot of gear for a 4.9 with stock tires, not bad at all with big ones though. I'm about to put a set of 3.73s in my '96 4.9 2WD and figure I'll need to upsize tires to 30" or maybe 31" to keep 3rd gear revs acceptable for towing.
The LS would be nice, but i'm thinking I'll stick with the open-diff. Right now I'm turning 30x9.50's with my stock 3.55's. Which works fine, but i'm getting a 4" Superlift and going to 33x12.50's.
I was considering 3.73's but the guy at the rear end shop said it would be a waste of time and money to just compensate for the 33's. The 4.10's run the same price as the 3.73's.
I had my gears swapped a few months back, 3.08 to 4.56 with 33" tires and E4OD. Total cost was right around $1000 for parts and labor, no LSD. I love it! With the 6cyl and 33's, I'd definately go 4.56 unless you do a lot of highway driving.
WHaynes,
How are the coil springs holding up on you're Pro-comp lift? Mine seem to have settled majorly in just a few months with very minimal driving time.
So far so good. I put the lift at the end of last May and unless my rear is sagging along with the front, my truck is still level. I don't do much haulin' but I had my truck on lots of fire roads and it is a daily driver. There doesn't seem to be any degradation of the stiffness either.
