Been lurking for a while this is my first post ( as u can tell) just got a '56 f-100 and I'm looking for a "junkyard upgrade" for my stock drum brakes, ( dual master cylinder) anyone know the easiest model or year to upgrade my MC???? P.S. Id like to keep MC under floor i possible but im open for any ideas!!! Thanx for any help or ideas!!!!!
As I have said before.. this is one system that you dont want to hack togather.. Of all the possable thing that can go worng if the brakes fail.. you can hurt more than just yourself.. All that said.. With a little thought, time, And of course money you can get a good setup for your needs.. I would recomend www.mpbrakes.com there tech support is great and they will walk you thru the whole thing if needed..
I built a mounting bracket by cutting the original bracket and welding a plate to it with a brace and then mounted a dual master cylinder to that. I was going to add a power brake booster, but my homemade transmission crossmember did not leave enough room. I have a 460 and C6 in the truck. If I was doing it again I would probably order the bracket from a vender to get rid of all the trial and error. The angle for the rod to the master cylinder from the brake peddle has to be just right or it will hang up in the master cylinder. Gave me fits for a long time. I finally had to redo the bracket. I have been running the unit for about 3 years now. Brakes are decent, but certainly not up to disc standards. It does eliminate the loss of brakes that one would have with a single master cylinder.
I am removing an aftermarket underfloor DC manual brake assembly off my truck converting over to hanging pedals and firewall mounted booster. I'd be willing to sell the removed system for a reasonable price email if interested.
