how hot is too hot?

well just got back from a trip totalling 2000 miles on my truck towing about 3k in motorcycles and trailer. my questions are , how hot is too hot for the exhaust gas temp and the trans temp?

i never let my egt get over 1150 degrees cuz i wasnt sure, made me mad when other trucks would pass me up the hills but i wasnt sure and didnt want to ruinthe truck....

and my trans temp would run between 180-190.....

I'll run my truck up to 1300 deg's. Sometimes a little more but I wont keep it up that high fot too long. I think that you could run up around 1350 for the 3-5 min's it takes to climb a hill but thats my opinion.

trans temp seem ok... anything below 200 will help maintain a good trans

And just imagine what there temps are flying up those hills......

1300* PRE TURBO, 850* POST TURBO. depends how long the hill is, if its reall long I will slow down or downshift, to keep the temps down.

Tranny temp is great, like robb said keep 'er under 200 for a real happy tanny, never let it get over 220*
