I notice many of you run MSD ignitions. What is the difference between a 5 and 6a and is the 6a really worth fifty bucks more. I have serveral vehicles I'd like to put these on but some are modified and some are stock. The modified ones are just moderately modified; one has a Edlebrock Perf. plus cam and the other has a cam and intake.
The MSD 5 is a multi-spark inductive discharge ignition mainly designed to be used with stock engines.
The 6A is the bae capacitive discharge system. A transformer steps up the input voltage (in nano seconds) and stores the charge in a large cpacitor. When the ignition is triggered, the capacitor releases all of the engergy instantly.
The 6AL includes a rev limiter.
I run the 6A with an adjustable timing control on my 351W.
