Straight Exhaust?

I have a 03 7.3 and I was wondering if any of you could tell me what the difference between removing the stock cat and muffler vs. an aftermarket exhaust system. Is the aftermarket exhaust system worth the money?

The main difference is EGT's. What are you looking to do with your rig?? If you're gonna be doing a chip or tuner - you're probably better off getting an aftermarket exhaust with a larger diamater down-pipe. If you're staying stock, or very low HP mods (like the 10k) then the stock exhaust straight piped would work just fine for ya!

i am planning to install a tymar intake system and the edge with the attitude. If I go that route it would be better for my truck to go with the aftermarket exahust, just for the low egts.

I would say so. If you have a pyro (which you should have either way) - you could get away with the stock exhaust - but you will be able to get a lot more out of your rig with the aftermarket exhaust without the temps getting out of hand. NOT to say that you can't get 'em high with an aftermarket exhaust - but you will be able to run a lot harder before you reach the same temps as if you keep the stock system.

O yea - go for the Tymar and Edge - definitely!! As for suggesting an exhaust - man there are a lot out there. First I guess is stainless or aluminized?? Are you looking for anything fancy like dual outlets, or huge monstous 6" tips?? After you decide that - my suggestion is check out Motorhaven first - pretty sure they have a bunch of exhausts to choose from - and they help support this great site of ours!!

PS - I have an aluminzed 4" system since I knew I was gonna chop half of it off when I did my stacks - and I couldn't justify spending that much more $$$ on stainless just to cut it up. I've had the aluminized part on for almost 2 years and it doesn't look any different than when I put it on - no rust at all yet....
