I have takin my truck (03) to the dealer four times for the same prolbem, and when they start it in the moring it does not do it.
my prolbem is the first start of the day the truck lopes for about 20 seconds, and for about 5 minuts if I try and drive it, it has no power NONE, put it to the floor and nothing. It does not do it all of the time, maybe 2 days aweek, more when it is colder, less than 40.
I love the truck but I want it to run correctly. I have the latest flash, and no throttle plate, the rest of the truck is stock other than the lift.
I am going to fix the truck my self if you guys can fill me in on what is wrong.
6.0 oil weight: Supposedly (according to one dealer) Ford has recommended using 10w30 oil to correct certain "driveabilty" issues such as loping & surging conditions while running 15w40. Although I have never actually read a specific TSB or Broadcast Message indicating this recommendation, it has been briefly mentioned & discussed here at the FTE. If you have a block heater, plug it in and see if the truck starts any better...This may indicate the engine prefers a thinner oil. I know there are quite a few folks running 10w30 conventional oil and also 5w40 synthetic with great success. Note:The oil must be CI-4 rated.
Steve, assuming your truck has the latest flash- Try the 10w30 (Motorcraft, Rotella or Mystik) or 5w40 synthetic (Mobil1 is popular) and see how your truck responds. If this makes no difference, then you could be a candidate for the EGR/VGT/EBP replacement (Ford recommends all 3 at once) and your "no power" concern could very well be within those 3 components. A faulty ICP is also quite common and easily replaced. As you have found out, the key is to have the truck exhibit the symptoms while at the dealer- Good luck (and IMO put in the Mobil1).
utahtom,
i thoungt that a diesel needed spical oil that had detergent in it, is that not true? Or, is the mobil 1 that you are refering to a detergent 5w40? Thanks for your time,
Steve
The 6.0 requires a CI-4 (diesel) rated oil... There are quite a few with this rating such as the Rotella you are already using and others- The Mobil1 synthetic 5w40 comes in two labels/packages "Truck & SUV" and "Delvac 1" which are the exact same oil. Unless specified as non-detergent (typically straight weights) most oils are considered detergent with their additive packages-
While there are many 15w40 diesel rated (conventional) oils- There are only a few 10w30 diesel rated (conventional) oils. That is why I mentioned the CI-4 rating...And also put in a Mobil1 recommendation
Steve MD1 is 5w40 couple that with the OilGuard, in my opinion the best combination of life blood you can place in a 6.0....notice I did the disclaimer, IMO.
Here is OilGuard, where I buy all my filters and run their system, check out my gallery for the pictures of it. Call Mark at OilGuard you get a discount for being with FTE, he is one of our sponsors. A footnote I was running OilGuard before he became a sponsor, I believe in his product so much.... Ken and Mark got together …the rest is history http://www.oilguard.com/Ford6.php
No offense to Utahtom, but I would absolutely not run 10W30 oil in your engine unless specifically told to do so by Ford. Run 10W30, have further problems, and you might be left holding the bag for a *very* expensive motor.
As soon as the next oil change comes up (6K miles), I'll be switching to Delvac 1 5W40 synthetic. Note that plain old Mobil 1 is not diesel rated - you need the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV or Mobil Delvac 1 - both are a tad harder to find. The contents of the bottles are the same, but Delvac 1 comes in gallon jugs and Truck and Suv comes in quarts.
