Well, looks like the end is near or already here. 93 AWD Aerostar, launched the boat, pulled out and felt a major "lurch". Bascially it drives okay for a short stretch (depending on the speed) and then gives a violent lurch or jolt. Doesn't do it will coasting and is worse at lower speeds or under load. Seems like there was a secondary vibration at higher speeds in OD. Is it possible that it's just the torque converter and is that difficult to replace? I can replace stuff like cylinder heads, transfer cases, axles, etc. but I've never done a torque converter. In any event, it's over for this one, with 182K it's time for a replacement. I'm just wondering if it's worth my while to try and make it a $1,000 used car instead of a $300 used car (if that).
It does have Captain Chairs, KYB shocks, factory ski rack and rear anti-sway bar is someones in the Portland, OR area!
I just spent over a grand on my 92, and consider it a much better situation than a $1,000 used car I have no idea about. This has been a great van and will continue to be for many years down the road. I'd much rather have my Aerostar than something else.
Okay, that last one makes some sense. Hopefully the manual will tell me how to adjust it. I suppose it makes logical sense that it has stretched/loosened rather than tightened?
