Please, Please Help!

PLEASE HELP, need truck Monday

I have a good feeling front hub bearing is going South. Jacked up front-end and spun wheel by hand, horable noise!

Removed wheel and tire, break caliper, pads, wheel extender, brake disk and hub. When I have the hub in my hand holding the back side, and spin the outer end of it, where the wheel extender mounts on it does not spin freely at all.

Problem is I dont know how to remove the bearing, it is a little blue around the inner edge of it, but more it doesn't spin freely.

Something else I noticed while disassembly, the U-Joint (4x4 dulley) at the inner end of it there is a seal where the axle goes into the housing that seems loose and at the outer end of it (the u-joint) there is another seal that seems loose, or they don't seem to be right, you can move them around, not attached to anything.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THE BEARING ISSUE FRIST?

You realize that you'll be replacing a hub assembly and not just bearings, right?

There was a great tutorial with images on here that someone linked to a while back. I have the addy for it saved on my other computer, but that computer is locked up. Maybe someone else remembers what it was. I'll try to look for it and post if if I can. Good luck, fellow NC resident!!

I had a 99 V10. There are 4 bolts behind the hub the whole assembly like redtaurus said comes out about 300 buck at the ford house

Perhaps this is the one I remember:

It deals with ball joint replacement, but info you need is contained within. Remember this is work done on a 1999 model truck, but hopefully it will be close enough to help you out. Again, good luck.........

Thanks RedTaurus!! Pics are a great thing!! I will tackle this tomorrow morning after getting a few parts. I had it all out except the outer & inner axles and seals. And now I know the two things I was looking at that I said were broken were simply axle seals... I now know the bearing can't be replaced, man got to spend some bucks, but I will fell MUCH better about it if I do it rather than paying FORD to do the work. I'm in business for my self and any savings helps. Thanks again, I will let you know in a few days how it went!!

Glad to be of service, sir!

I had to replace one of mine a while back. The book says to replace them in pairs, but I can't see spending and extra $350 for nothing. ONE cost enough, if you know what I mean! I bought my unit at the local dealer and it came with a new ABS cable and sensor and they even threw in a new O-ring to seal the vacuum-activated hubs. The only bad thing was that I had to re-use my studs. They are a little bit of a pain to get out, but with a little elbow grease, it can be done. At any rate, be SURE to torque those studs, and MAKE SURE you get those washers/spacers back like they came off. And let us know how you faired.........

RedTaurus...Went smooth up until the outer axle seal, ruint one and had to show my face at the STEALERSHIP to get another. Other than that THANK YOU FOR THE LINK!! Like i said, pics are worth millions to me!!!
Went with hub from dealership $406 and seals $55.00, no they did not throw anything in, not even the $2.61 yellow O'ring. Then they wanted me to buy a U-Joint for the front, I might be sorry in a little while but I held off now I know what I'm doing with the front end. Again, Thanks man. What parts are you in, mountains or foothills? I spent 10 years in Lincolnton a while back, that was another life...later.

Keep your receipt. I did my left side at 50,000, and the right side went at 55,000. When I took it to my local dealer, I had the receipt to get the right part number for the parts guy - he just came over from Jiffy Lube or something, anyway.... He tells me they warranty parts for 12 months and they replaced it under warranty for nada. Who am I to tell him it was for the other side at $350 a throw.

The inner seals are a biyatch, I ended up taking it to a machine shop to have them pressed in. Once you do one side, you have mastered the technique, I did the other side in 45 minutes including tool cleanup.

I'm now at 95,000, so I'm holding my breath until the next time...

1BADF350, Thats a good one, who knows it may be for the same side....mine sure will if I need another one any time soon!
Good info for everyone who deals with parts guys (KEEP PARTS RECEIPTS)from dealerships, I find that the local guy at NAPA or Advance can give me just as good numbers as can any FORD PARTS COUNTER!

I'm at 132,600 miles and this is the first hub, been through trany, rear axle seals, pinion seal (not from pluged vent), balljoints...hummm balljoints and hub/bearing were on same side, just 25,000 apart, something to comtiplate (sp)...
