I did it up big time this time. I was trying to remove the oil sending unit for the dash light and broke off the fitting in the block. This is on my 86 f 250 with 302 engine. Then to make matters worse, i broke off the ez out i was using to get the broken piece out.
Anyone have any good remedys for getting the ez out out of the block? I have tried a diamond burr on a Dremal tool but am not having much success. I'm trying to cut the brass out from around the ez out. The burr seems to wear out very rapidly. Not sure i can afford to buy all the burrs it looks like i may need.
Also, am concerned about getting pieces of metal down into the oil passages.
Have you tried applying some heat to problem. If you get things good and hot and then quench it, the sudden change will sometimes cause the EZout to become loose on the piece of work. It worked for me once when I broke one trying to extract a broken exhaust stud. As for the shavings. If I not mistaken the oil flows from there directly to the filter. Even a cheap, no manes please, filter will catch chips that size. Good luck.
The only way that I've been able to get a broken EZout is what you're doing. holland501's suggestion sounds like a good one though. One thing that I can suggest though, for future broken bolts is to find a set of left-handed drill bits. Sounds kinda funny (& they can be a little hard to find), but they actually work better than EZouts (break less as well).

Well I was going to mention the Left handed drill bits but 63redtudor beat me to it!
But if you are worried about fillings get someone to crank/start the engine while you hold a cloth over the hole. You should have good flow of oil and it should clean out the hole. I have never did this but the theory should work.
