shift kit fmx tranny
Thought I needed a shift kit. Put one in.When it shifts it shifts hard.It takes 10 to 15 seconds before it will engage when you put it in gear.Its not as bad after it warms up.

I have an FMX also. I had a shift kit installed by my tranny guy. He said there were a number of ways to set it up and asked me how I wanted it to shift. I told him I wanted it to "chirp" the tires when I was on it. He set up the kit to do that.
Mine shifted really late (high rpm) and hard. When I complained about it, he showed me how to adjust the shift point using the modulator valve (at the rear of the tranny housing where the vacuum line connects). Pull the vacuum line, reach into the modulator with a thin flat screwdriver and turn the stem. Counterclockwise should make it shift earlier and softer. Reconnect the vacuum line.
Trial and error is the only method I know to dial it in. Mine shifts perfectly now, but I was under the truck adjusting it maybe 8 times before I got it exactly right.
Some time later it started shifting hard again. Turned out that the vacuum line was cracked. I'd check that first.
