Yes, especially with some Ford engines like the 302. I am going off memory, but I think the firing order has #7 and #8 next to each other in the firing order. They are also next to each other physically, so it's natural to run the wires together. This creates a serious cross-fire condition, which makes the engine sound like it's missing.
If you happen to have some of the other wires too close together, they can have problems too. I have taken flat pieces of plastic, drilled 5/16 holes in a row, and then sawed the piece in two, to make my own holders in a pinch. You can saw down through the holes, not quit in the middle, and get a holder that works pretty good. I have even used plexiglas before.
