OK this has happened twice now. I will obviously be contacting the dealership but I wanted to throw this out here first since the combined knowledge here is better than the dealership.
2005 F250 FX4 w/ PSD & SCMT in HP setting. The first time this happened the truck was in STOCK mode, so I think we can rule out the tuner. Accelerating from a slow drift (ie. slowly depressing gas pedal to move forward while in traffic, or slowly speeding up after slowing down for a parking lot speed bump) I will press the gas pedal and nothing happens I feel resistance from the pedal, but the RPMs do not move and I stay in idle even if I press hard on the pedal. In both cases backing off of the gas pedal completely and then trying again has worked both times. Very strange.
So my questions:
Is this truck with the PSD set up as a 'fly by wire' configuration? If not what is the throttle cable connected to? Seems to me that if the cable were connected to a mechanical linkage on the intake (like my Mustang) then pressing the gas would always have some effect. But since the PSD is conputer controlled injection it makes me think it might be 'fly by wire'.
If it is fly by wire which sensor(s) could be at fault?
And has this happened to anyone else?
It worries me because if it gets worse it could happen on the freeway or while trying to pull the boat out of the water... which is of course why the dealership visit is planned - unless someone here knows better about it.
Thanks!
It's fly-by-wire. There are 3 redundant sensors in the pedal assembly itself. They had a bad run of them a while back but there's always a chance you just got a bad one.
I'm resurrecting this thread because the dealer can't find anything wrong and it has done it to me again now 3 more times. I did discover something weird though. Looking back at every time this has happened I was in a gentle left hand turn at low speed. Coincidence? Anyone got any thoughts?
This is a copy I read. Not sure if relates to the 04, or 05, or both. But it will give you a starting point on possible wire chafing. Do you know if they checked for that?
Wire Chafing Issues:
A variety of driveability issues can arise from chafing/shorting wiring, such as crank/no-start, stall, running rough, misfire, buck/jerk or lack of power. The most common location for this is the valve cover/cover bolts near the FICM or the intake manifold bolts where the harness routes under the air intake hose. The harness should be rerouted and any chafe points insulated with rubber vacuum caps. Other chafe problems can occur where the sensor harnesses route around the valve covers, thermostat housing, idler pulleys, glow plug relay bracket, and near the accelerator pedal assembly (adjustable pedals), and also near the PCM by the battery and near the relay box brackets at the left rear corner of the engine compartment.

Are you going back to your selling dealer? Have you tried the one in Auburn? I just have been told that some of the delaers "down the hill" aren't too good with the diesels... If it's persistent, and they continue to not find the problem, then I'd try switching who I took it to for service... My $.02 worth
I test drove over at Placerville and they are a pretty small dealership, don't know how good their diesel techs are, but they did have a lot of diesels for sale. I do know their ad keeps saying the "new" Ford dealership -- not sure if they are new to Ford or just a change in ownership (or even just a remodeled showroom?!)
Although I didn't have good luck with Maita's sales side (Auburn dealer) I have had good service work experience (no major diesel probs taken there, tho) and I've heard they have good diesel techs as well...
Good luck! oh and, w-o-r-k isn't that a four letter word?!

Would be if my contract employer actually USED me That's why I have so much time to hang out on this site lately
