Hey guys Im undecided about how I want my exhaust to sound. I have a 96 150 with stock exhaust. I was thinking of an aftermarket exhaust system but am uindecided what I want. Tell me what you guys got. Are you happy with it or would you do something different. Should I go with a really loud exhaust or just a nice rumble but nothing to drastic. How about tips should go outthe side or go out the back. How big 3,4,or 5 inch. I was thinking if Igo with a loud exhaust with big tips I could be in for some challenges you. Racing or what not. Questions, questions. Do you guys attract attention with your exhaust? Fill me in guys give me your thoughts. Thanks BTW I have a 302. Thanks a bunch.
Well first things first ... noisy exhaust ALWAYS draws attention, expecially if its on a nice set of wheels.
My exhaust on my ol'betsy is a nasty rapping one with only 2 1/2 pipes i belive, they come out the rear behind the rear tire. On the Bronco I have just 2" with a light rap, mainly when you punch it it starts to rap, I went that way with it for I use it hunting and loud exhaust from my truck seemed to make the deer a little harder to find as i do my lazy man hunting (driving till we see a nice one and doing the swat sneek in) and the new one is still stock so no help on that one, but i'm a body guy and i found that putting the exhaust infront of the rear tires made vehicles in canada rust more around the fender wells and made the rims off coloerd over time.
Some trucks with fender flares look nice with them coming out the backend under the tail gate... but personally i like the normal rear wheel way ... or a monster set of STACKS ... had a pair on an old 71 that i put on a 79 4X4 frame .... looked sweet.
Good luck and also the 302 to me has the nicest rap out there.
I have headers with 33" of 3" pipe and a set of flowtech terminators. It's on a 390 also. I like the way it sounds. Not too loud until I want it to be loud. It all depends on how much lead you have in your right shoe.
The only way you will get any sound out of a 96 is to cut the cats off, I cut the muffler and both cats off mine and just replaced them with a single high flow cat and it is still not loud enough to cause trouble with.
2 1/4 inch true duals, no cats, 18 inch glasspacks! That is if you don't have emissions testing. No exhaust restrictions here in Wyoming, Ha! this system setup has a real nice quiiet purr on Idle but boy when you step on the gas those glasses bark. Boy does it sound sweet. Don't have any trouble with the cops about noise. My truck is extremeley loud, but quiet compared to some rigs running around town!
if yo do remove the cat(s), you will need a MIL Elminator since your truck is OBD-II.
I like loud, but not annoying loud. This guy has a 92 powerstroke with true dual glasspacks.... That has to be the most annoying sound I've ever heard. It's all popping sound. I like a deep, loud rumble.
