I have a 1977 F-100 Ranger with a 1976 Ford 360 under the hood. I have notive here recently I am not getting the pulling power that I should be getting mainly in the upper gears. I keep up with the routine maintenance but I am not sure were to start looking to find out were I am losing power. I am open to suggestions.
How long have you had the truck? Reason I ask is because I noticed the same thing with my 03 Buell Firebolt. It seemed like it just didn't have the power it used to have. I had it about a year before I noticed the power loss. Then I went to Iraq for a while. When I got back I took the bike out and like magic the power was all there. I'm just wondering how bad is the power loss? Is it very sluggish, missing when a load is put on it or does it just not seem as powerful as it use to be? If routine maintance is done then the next step would be the compression check. If the compression is good then it's time to start looking for mor serious problems. What carb do you have? Which dizzy are you using? Any mods to the motor? What has been done to the motor?
well it may be that in your part of the country they are required to reformulate gas this time of the year with oxygen which will give less power in carb vehicles and less mpg you should replace the plugs air filter check the carb and timing

Here's a quick test. With the engine running and fully warmed up pull your PCV valve out of the valve cover and look at what comes out of the hole. There should be a little bit of smoke (blow-by) but not a lot. Put your fingers over the hole...if you can feel pressure blowing against your fingers you probably have bad rings. Bad rings equals loss of power.
