Finally got the beast (90 F150) running well, now the new problem is that when I take off from a standing start, usually with a little more than necessary right foot, the washer fluid squirts onto the windshield! It does this even with the power supply to the pump motor disconnected, so I know it's not activating for a second, or anything like that. Is there some kind of check valve somewhere in the tank, pump motor, lines, etc? The pump motor is about a year old, and the washer jet is just a couple months old. Anyone else have this problem, or am I the lucky one? It's not bad, just annoying, especially right after I've spent a good amount or time washing, waxing & polishing.
My 87 does that also along with a few of my buddies trucks. Don't know what can be done about it though. Not much help, but at least you know you're not alone.
You can change the squirter that sits on the hood to a different type (a spray pattern instead of the stream we get).
Or you can put an relief valve in the hose to the squirters. The valve should allow air into the hose when the pump is off. That way the washer hose is empty until the washer pump pumps it off. Try leaving the cover off the washer fluid tank and see if that helps drain the fluid out of the hose, sometimes it seals too well and won't release the pressure.
