Vacuum lines
I finally went out and got my first toy and it happens to be a 79 4x4 with a 460 in it, i got it for 200 dollars so you can imagine the problems. What i am getting right now is when i start it up it idles fine, once warm i can throw in reverse and thats fine also but when in drive it will go a bit and cut out, sometimes i can give it alittle gas and it will gradually cut off and if i punch it...automatic shut off, i can hear the the air and i am pretty sure it is a vacuum leak but i haven't had much time to get into it and look around, just off these indications does anyone have a good guess of where i can start......it's a pretty stupid question but like i said....i am new at this and determined.....

First thing I was do is change the fuel filter. This is $5 and a lot of times can cause you major headaches when junk gets in there. If the truck was sitting quite a while the carb may need to be rebuilt too, but start with the filter.
In terms of vacuum there's a fair amount of emissions junk on those trucks so you'd really need to trace all the lines to see if there's a leak. If you can hear the leak then it's most likely going to be a hose that's loose so it should be fairly easy to spot. Check the vacuum tree behind the carb and see what you can find.
