I purchased a 2000 F250, with of coure the 7.3, diesel in March. This truck rocks! The engine idles O.K. but seems to not have the acceleration it did when I first got it. I have already changed the fuel filter and the CPS. Thanks to all for the instructions and the idea of checking the International dealer. They were the only ones that had the CPS in stock and were the cheapest! The engine oil was changed before I purchased it and I recall someone posting here that their truck didn't run as well with the Ford dealership oil? I am about at the 5000 mile interval for the oil change and plan to change it to Rotella 15w-40 when I have access to the shop this weekend. (180 miles to home.) Is it possible for the oil to cause something like this or should I be looking for something else? It dosen't smoke under acceleration and the air filter looks good. It also has been chipped. I plan to take the chip out and try it without it tonight although I don't think this is the cause because this has happened progressively.
The filters are a good place to start. I wonder if your transmission may have something to do with the problem?
I don't know if it's on your year truck or not but there is a screen in the fuel bowl that needs to be cleaned occasionally.
You may also try to check for codes in the computer. Sometimes a vehicle gets the CEL light bulb removed before it gets sold so you don't know there's a problem.
I have a 96 7.3 and I was wondering about the comment you made anbout the screen in the fuel bowl. Where is that located Id like to check it on my truck.
99.5 and up dont have the screen but it is inside the fuel filter bowl towards the top on the right check to make sure your ebp valve is open and check exhuast for a plugged muffler or converter if your truck has one

As you look in the fuel bowl, the screen is to the right hand side near the top (as you face the truck). Use some Q-tips and GENTLY clean the surface of the screen. It's not a bad idea to do this every time you change the fuel filter.
