Are you trying to use a 302 bracket on a 351 or a 351 bracket on a 302 or a truck bracket on a car or a car bracket on a truck? Not sure if they are the same but should work. Just not sure if the truck brackets sit up higher. Also what year?
i was wanting to know if the bracket off a 351 truck motor from 1988 will work on a 88 mustang with a 302. the reason i want to know is because the car doesn't have the correct bracket on it and is causing the belt to jump
Depending on where the bracket is located, it may not fit. Some of the brackets mounted high, while others were mounted low on the engine. You
may as well see if it fits since you already have it, but you might have to get
one from a 302.
I threw my '88 5.0 Mustang bracket in the back of the truck today and then was working on a '91 Bronco with the 5.8. Compared the brackets, quite a bit of difference. The 5.8 truck bracket sets the p/s pump a fair bit lower, and in this case both the Bronco and the Mustang have A/C so the compressor mounts on top of the P/S bracket. The truck bracket mounts the compressor much higher. Here's a pic of the Mustang 5.0 bracket:
Given that the main difference in these two brackets seems to be pump location vertically, I can't imagine that would cause you to keep throwing your belt. There must be some other problem, something that's out of line with the rest of the pulleys. Have you tried sighting down all the pulleys from the side, looking along the belt for something that's out of whack? -TD
