Hey, everyone. Now, I remember seeing a thread here or on another forum discussing Optima batteries, and I'm not trying to reinvent it, but just want to
share an experience I just had.
I have owned my '77 F150 for about a year now and have been using the battery that came with it. Lately, I've been doing some work to my truck and haven't been driving it, but start it up every week. Last night, I was trying to start it and it wouldn't start. I tried for about 45 sec. and the battery crapped out. My first thought was : Great, there's another $50-$70 I need to spend. I knew this battery was on its way out the door.
Then I remembered my Optima battery that has been sitting on porch for the last 15 months. I bought it for an Integra I used to drive, until it was side swiped. I had just bought this battery ($125) 3 mos. prior to my car being destroyed. So, I went and got it off the porch and pulled the old battery. Stuck in my Optima and decided to give it a try. It started up on the first crank of the engine!! I never would have guessed. I figured that it would need to be recharged, nope started immediately. BTW, it's a yellow top deep cycle. It looks odd because its a group 51 and looks real small in there, but it works. This after setting through a very cold winter here in central PA. Thank God, because I don't have the money this month (or next) to buy a new battery.
I definitely buy another. True story.
Thanks for the info on Optima batteries! I was wondering if they were worth the money or not? I have a portable electric winch that will be moved from 3 different trailers and trucks and was wondering if an Optima would be a good choice or not!

There's folks on here that would tell you that these are great batteries and some will tell you that they are an overpriced POS. I like them, they worked for me. Sure I paid $125 for a battery (when I could have got one for $60-$70) at a time when I had the money to do so. The other day I didn't have enough to buy even a Wally World special, so that $125 I spent over a year ago was well worth it to me.
I think anyone who thinks that Optimas are over priced POS's probably has not owed one for 8 years of which it occasionally used during the summer and left out in a cold barn attached to a Ford 800 tractor.
Kuttysark40, If you plan on running a winch off it, go with a yellow top (blue would probably work just as well). it is the deep cycle/ starting version. blue top is the marine deep cycle version http://www.optimabatteries.com/publi...duct_info.html
