A/C Weirdness...
Well, folks, here's a strange one. On a recent trip, the A/C was working just fine; then it just cut out--still blowing, etc. but no cold air. When I got home, a friend and I did some checks: plenty of freon and the unit seemed to be working again! Am I looking for gremlins? The clutch unit was recently replaced, and the plate seems to make a little noise but appears to function well. Are there any sensors that could malfunction and lead to such an intermittent problem? I'm heading for some long trips this summer, and I'd really like to have the cool air! Thanks for any input. This board has been a great help.

A/C Weirdness...
The clutch cycling switch located on the accumulator is the usual reason for intermitents on Fords. Also possible that the clutch coil is weak and won't pull in every time. If you can get it in a fail mode first jumper the terminals on the ccs harness if it runs replace the switch. Next and I caution you to be extremely careful, with the engine running a/c on push in on the clutch plate with a long tool of some kind. If the coil is weak it will engage and run.
