I have had a problem with my rebuilt 351w for some time now. I have been going over one thing at a time at least twice now. It just hasnt been running tops, like it's not hitting on all eight.......I know it is though. What about my intake it is a performer (edelbrock). When I installed it I placed it on according to the directions. I used rtv on the ends. After reading other threads about intake installation others have specified using headless bolts in the four corners to ailgn the intake correctly. Is this neccessary??? My concern is that may be I have an inner vaccum leak under my manifold.
Haven't heard about headless bolts on manifold corners, yet. Seems with the problems I have that I should check into that.
Get yourself a vacuum tester, 'bout $30.00, at the local autoparts store. I got one that's a combo vacuum and fuel pressure tester. Cheap price to be able to rule out vac leaks.

I have tried spraying wd40 around the intake with no change in the idle. May-be I should try the starting fluid. If I find no vaccum leak on top could it be on the inside of the valley under the intake? With what Menroe suggested about getting a vaccum / fuel pressure tester I had done this a while back and it showed about 16. 16 on the gauge indicates that there is late ignition timing. I know this is not true because I set it and everthing is good as far as the timing goes. 20 on the gauge indicates good to normal vaccum. So the vaccum leak is only small but great enough to cause it to run sloppy. Any further information would be great.
Only under a load or you could say just above an idle and always when you are driving it. I have decided that who ever gives me the fix it information I need to get my truck running right I am going to give that person an edelbrock rpm intake.
