The idling problem with my tuck has returned. It's a 92F1504x4 with the 5.0. It was idling very bad about a month ago, specially at stop lights (when in gear). I cleaned the IA bypass valve and Throttle body and it was ok for a while. Well now it idles bad again. You could say it surges. I noticed black smoke exiting the exhaust when it's doing this. It comes close to stalling. If I put it in park it revs up for a minute and idling returns to normal. Drop it in gear and it starts to sputter. It has 85,000 miles on it. I hope someone can point me in the right direction rather than going to the dealer and get gouged. The ECM has codes 41 and 33 set. the only explanation I have for code 41 is "failure to switch". Not sure what that means. Any suggestions will be well appreciated
I performed the engine running self test got vacuum. I removed the valve and cleaned but it seemed to open well even before cleaning. I tested the MAP and the engine idles high with it disconnected. This trouble only happens when it sits idling in gear for over 45 seconds. It cant be the egr valve because last time this happened I engaged the emergency brake and checked under the hood and the egr valve stem was closed and not moving. I'm buying a HEGO sensor monday and if that doesn't solve it i'll have to take it to the shop. Thanks to all
Well according to the book
"Ford Computer Code Reader" erroe 33 says that the EGR valve is not closing properly and 41 is the system is running lean
I would check or replace the EGR first then the lean condition may fix itself, after EGR repair or replace clear all the codes .
Hope this helps
