460 exhaust mod
I need a new cat(or so I've been told). Pulling power is way down. I am considering putting on a full size converter with 3" piping (and a muffler) all the way back. Has anyone done this? I know I will have renewed power just replacing the converter, but will the 3" exhaust improve much on that? will it improve mileage or power? I assume it would remain smog legal in california. Could it have any negative impact on the motor?

Haven't replaced the cat, but I have installed a Gibson Cat-back system on an '88 F-250 SC w/460. It uses the stock cat connection @ 2.5" and immediately goes to 3" with a large 3" muffler and 3.5" SS outlet tip. I noticed some improvement in power, and a good mellow sound. If you're looking for loud find something else, but it is louder than stock. The kit installs easily and uses stock bracket mounts, should only take a couple hours.
