Stock radio problem

I mentioned this before, my radio doesn't work, seems dead thought the light works, and it pops when turned on/off. Even stranger when I pass by radio towers all of a sudden sound is louder across several stations.I thought antennae was bad and replaced this- it made no difference at all. any thoughts as to next steps?thanks

With the info at hand, I'd guess your radio is toast. Probably something internal in the RF circuit since you can still hear something. Not what you wanted to hear of course, but it doesn't sound good (no pun intended).

When you say sound is louder as you pass towers, I assume that you mean noise (white noise, static, etc.) and not any sort of intelligible reception?

Being in NoDak, are there any old-timer radio/TV fix-it shops around that can troubleshoot it for you?

If you replaced the antennae you have to adjust the radio for the best reception. The is a small sloted screw near the lead for the antannae that has to be carsfully turned in or out untill the volume goes up. Check the antannae lead as well and make sure of contact at the antannae base. Sounds like your radio is working and maybe be ok. Best to take it to a shop to find the problem.

Thanks for the input evryone.Vern the radio actually picks up stations, not white noise, when Ipass the towers. That's part of whats so weird, willl try the antennae screw adjustment suggested and see if that helps.

radio reception

Well i found the slooted screw, it was on the front of the radio and turned fully counterclockwise, when I turned counter, the volume did become louder and I am able to make out 3-4 stations faintly. This is driving me nuts

Now we know that there is some life in the radio it could be a faulty speaker, poor ground on the radio and or the antennea ( possibly a bad new antennae) or a problem with the radio. To find out which it is you may have to go to a radio repair shop. This would drive me nuts as well but it would be nice to find out what the prolem is.

Make sure that the correct wires are going to the speaker and are not shorting out.The radio should be self grounding by the mounting of it to the dash. I have found that when I touch the antennea the volume will go down if the antenneais working properly and if not the sound will get louder. The antennea should ground itself to the fender so make sure you have a good clean connection there. I don`t have any shop manuals for 1967 to give a colour break down and can`t find the 68 manual tonite.. My 69 has a pair of black wires with a plug for the speaker connection and a black wire that I think is for the power. Have you checked out the speaker or tried a different one to see if that is the problem? Here`s hoping.
