Octane Boost ?

My employer pays for my gas during the summer since I use my truck for company business.
I want to put a tuner on it but I don't want to make the company pay for premium.
1). Can I buy over the counter octane boost at the store and just add it when I fill up?
2). Would this be the same as running premium fuel.
3). If yes. can anyone recomend what kind of octane boost I should use?

Thank you,

Tony

I have used the 105+ octane booster in my F250 460 when towing. Can't really say it made a difference. Maybe I didn't use enough.

I have read that to make big gains in octane you have to use several cans. It is cheaper in my opinion and several others, to just use premium. I would guess this stuff is really only good for guys who need more octane than you can get at the pump.

Just my opnion and not based on anything scientific, just a couple times tried with so so unconvincing results.

Most octane boosts only raise the octane of fuel around .1 You would need to add 10 bottles just to gain 1 extra octane. And if you need to run 93 octane well do the math, you would need 60 bottles in a averaged size fuel tank. So in super duties with 29 or 39 gal tanks you might need more. I am not sure of the quality of the octane boost products. If it were me I would just get premium fuel. If your company has issues with premium fuel, just make a deal to pay the 87 octane price and you pick up the .20 cent extra a gallon.

Good Luck

Your employer should be happy to pay for premium.
If you use your truck for company business, you should be getting much more than just free gas. your employer should also anti up for maintenance, wear and tear, repairs, depreciation, etc. you wont break even on $.20 per mile plus gas on a newer superduty. Your employer is getting a hell of a deal only paying for your gas.

Actually, there are a few more variables involved that I didn't list. I only use my vehicle for company purpose between May 15 - Sept 15. The rest of the time they provide me with a vehicle. The reason is lengthy so I won't get into that. They provide all of my gas during May - Sept, 100%, including personal use. Considering I average about 300 miles a month company driving and they are paying for my gas to pull my RV, run aroung gas and everything else, I would say I have a sweet deal. Also, I live in extreme arctic conditions during the winter months in which they are providing a vehicle so that I don't have to destroy mine at -40, -50, and -60 below temps. Thank you for your concern but I am getting a good deal. That's why I like this forum, everyone watches out for each other.
