Please read that thread (it's stuck on the top of the 87-96 forum). All "Read First!" links at the top of forums should be read so you know how that forum operates. Underneath that thread, is this one, you should read it too...
You're thread simply deals with a chattering clutch, it doesn't really have anything to do with the fact that it's an 87-96 vehicle, so it belongs in the Clutch (and trans, diff, axle, and TC forum).
A chattering clutch is usually caused by oil/grease getting on the surface, or the flywheel/pressure plate surfaces are bad. Sometimes they develope heat spots, cracks, gouges from the clutch disk, etc. It'll probably need to come apart, and you may need a new pressure plate, clutch disk, and flywheel resurfacing.
dont know if this helps..but mine clacks and shudders when it's cold and after the clutch is released. one day i found a roller from the input shaft bearing in the tranny lube. it still works fine but a few transmission shops i talked to said that it's common for the input shaft bearing on the m5od to fail. this could be lettting the shaft have some play causing that shudder.
Did he give any particular reason for the bearing to commonly go? I've had it all apart before and I can't see a "problem" that would make it go any faster than on another vehicle....I know the ZF has the same design setup. I'd be more likely to say that the bearings go on all vehicles, not many people realise there is a bearing in there to replace. I'd like to know why he has that opinion.
