Subaru Impreza WRX
I would have to agree with JohnnyBench520...
And for good reason too.
And if you are getting not much over 10mpg's in an F150 with 3.55's, (lead blocks taped to the right boot???) I doubt you will get a whole lot better in a WRX.
If you want to get a car, may I suggest a Volvo S40/V50 T5.
Has the performance of a WRX, but insurance agents don't realise it (being a Volvo, its more of a grandpa car).
Also gets much better fuel economy, AND its a Ford - well kind of.
My truck is a 2000 f150 5.4 ext. cab 4x4 w/3.55limited slip-i don't drive it hard at all because of gas prices and i still get 10-11 mpg.
How much do the volvos go for? could you get me a link to some information on them? Consumer reports had pretty bad marks for volvos from what i recall.
JohnnyBench520-how bad of a combo? whats the difference between an occasional driver with a 150 on the policy and an occasional driver with the wrx on the policy?
For ... say a policy owner thats never had an accident and no tickets.
Tonight we test drove the rs model and that was pretty quick-we don't know much about these cars and thought it was a wrx until we couldn't find the turbo.
Friday night we're going back to test drive the wrx, but its can auto-i wanted to get a manual, but i still want to get an idea what the car is like.
Here is the V50 (the wagon).
Get a T5 AWD, and you can't go wrong... 218hp, 6 speed manual...
Stickers for US$29k I think...
Is that within budget?

Obviously i'm looking for a used one... so the WRX just fits really well.
Even the RS 5 speed was a fun one to drive-i can't wait to test drive the WRX.
thanks,
paul
Of course the mom says its too fast, dad wants one for himself.
So tomorrow we're going to talk this over some more and see what i want to do-this seems like a good investment to me, this car should hold its value fairly well.
Am i insane?
I just dont' need all that truck for everyday driver and its just a waste for me i think.

However I just realised that you are buying a 2nd hand WRX!!!!

Just remember, while these are quite reliable cars, expect for it to have lived its life 3 times over already (even if its only 6 months old)
These cars are NEVER purchased by the shy retiring grandpa with lots of mechanical sympathy, the owner probably dumped the clutch on the way out of the dealership trying to smoke all 4 tires...
Have you priced insurance yet?
I see little way (I could be wrong) that the WRX will be cheaper to run overall than a F150, once you include servicing, parts, insurance etc.
But if you want the WRX, go for it, just don't expect it to be a whole lot cheaper, thats all.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I doubt it...
No matter how much money they are able to squeeze out of you, a young male in a WRX screams "liability".
A lot of insurance companies over here plain and simple refuse insurance to anyone under 25 driving a WRX, and the ones that will insurance one charge an arm a leg AND a kidney...
Therefore there are a lot of uninsured WRX's around here
That's the trick I'm having.... I get to keep my Supercrew by having the older Accord with stick as a commute vehicle.
