i just got my cleveland fired up, i am running rhodes lifters, and a ford oil cooler. i am hearing a lot of valve noise. i am going to go out n pull a valve cover to see if it is getting oil but i havent got that far yet. i know the pickup tube isnt too low, and we primed the pump with the drill and i discovered another plug on the outside for my sending unit i forgot, but i do recall the drill not bogging down like it should. . i know i got the plugs on both sides of the cam, i dont recall one in the pan area, but at this point i am going to go n check pressure, and gamble on which to remove first, the intake, timing cover, or oil pan.
or do rhodes lifters need extra time to break in? i pumped them up prior but sitting in the engine they could have bled down. well any ideas where to go from here and if you got a diagram or count on the plugs i would appreciate it.
Rhodes lifter are just plain noisy I have never seen anyone that was happy with them, but I would definatly put a mechanically oil preasure gauge on just to be sure but if you have good oil preasure, and the valves aren't loose then it's just the typical noise asscociated with them lifters. Sorry but thats been my experience with them, I have helped replace them on several engines with less than 200 miles on them cause of that noise, and they drive people nuts.
edit internally there is 4 gallery plugs 2 at each end of the block. and if you don't have any external leaks and it appears one is missing (no or very low oil preasure) then it would have to be one of the ones behind the timing cover.

i figured out what it was, i was getting oil to the rocker area, not a ton, but enough, the lifters werent all that bad, but i am running newer rockers too so it is all pretty tight.
it was the flywheel hitting the plate between the engine and trans. i had it running for a while last night, it was exciting
