Question about 4" exhaust

I have always wondered if 4" exhaust was so much better, why didn't ford put it on in the first place? Could it be an emissions issue? Also same question goes for the high tech intakes.

Thanks

Frank

I'm sure its a cost issue on Fords part. Take the cost difference between 3 or 3.5" pipe and 4" pipe and multiply yhat times the number of trucks made a year, thats quite a cost savings. Sinse the factory exhaust is adequate for the factory tune (de-tune) on your computer, there's no reason to spend the extra money. Modifying the intake and exhaust is required for those that want more HP. It helps keep your egt's lower while running a 'hotter' tune making more HP.

I bought my 2000 F350 dually used, and it had a stock 4" exhaust. I guess it was an added option.

Not that anyone has ever heard of, but mostly noise, and emissions is why ford did that. Plus as cut back as the motors are from ford, nothing else is really needed(although more would be nice)
