Give us more info on your vehicle; year, engine, mileage, etc. It may be more helpful. Is it more of a knocking sound or tapping sound??
That said, it's quite possible that it's a lifter...a bad lifter could lose its oil and tap while pressure/oil builds up in your lifter. If it's an older vehicle, I'd probably just live with the noise. If it was a newer vehicle, I'd be tempted to try to repair it...
Its a 92 2.3 with a 94 engine with about 105000 miles on it. I think its more of a tapping sound. I was thinking it was the lifters. Would it be bad for the engine running it like this cuz i like to accelerate fast and shift at high rpms (usually nothin over 4k).
Valve noise at startup can be due to a faulty anti-drainback valve in the oil filter, also oil that is way to thick. Have you check the oil presure at startup to see if anything going on unusual.
