I have an 80 Bronco w/ a 351m, a/t, duraspark 11. The problem is it won't start. I put a new fuel pump on, and rebuilt the carb. There is plenty of fuel. I also put a new coil, distributor, and computer. Still wont start..... I checked the spark with a tester, seems to be getting sufficiant spark.. still wont start. I checked the timing several times...same thing... The motor turns over but won't fire. I also replaced the ignition switch on the steering column. My gues is that it is elelctrical. Can anyone help me before I go and do something dumb like, buy a Chevy?
Hi, I did make sure the #1 cylinder was in the tdc position. I then lined up the rotor to the #1 position on the cap. I did check the rotation and positioned the wires accordingly.
Well, I am pretty sure. I did the old, put the finger over the spark plug hole until air, compression, blew by my finger and the crank ended up on 0. Please tell me you have an easier, more accurate way? Any help is appreciated!!
Check to see if you have voltage on the + side of the coil. That will help narrow it down. You can also jumper straight from the battery to the + side of the coil. Then try swapping your plug wires 180deg. From what you say that is what it sounds like or restab the dist. I have had this were I would have bet all I own that I it set right only to be proven wrong.
Thanks guys!! I will try out your suggestions. I do have a question maybe you can answer? I was just looking at a wiring diagram for a duraspark 2 ignistion. It show that the + side of the distibutor goes to the "I" terminal on the srarter relay. As far as I can recall, my truck was never hooked up to that side. Furthermore, I looked at a couple of trucks in the local recking yards and they were the same way. Is this a must?
The "I" Terminal stands for ignition. The "S" terminal is for starter. Hope this helps some. If you cross the wires I don't think the engine will crank/turn over.
Thanks for the info Bronco Man!! I talked with a Ford mechanic while my 2000 GT was in, he said that the Duraspark coil hooks up to the "I" terminal for starting. Then goes down to 9 volts while it is running..
