I don't know about Napa or Advance Auto, but you can't get a steering gearbox at O'Reilly Auto parts. I pulled mine from a truck in a salvage yard, along with all the other parts I needed.

yes the 67-79 power steering boxes are the same. If you are doing a power steering conversion you will need a power steering column also. the power boxes are about 4" longer than manual boxes.

pitman arms are different for manual and power boxes.

Will the bendix box bolt on to an early 77 F250 (highboy). Do you have a p/n or source?

steering box

77 is different I know the bendix will work as a direct bolt on for 67 to 72. I use to have a pic of the difference between the 2 but the bendix has a round cap on top of the gear. You can find them on ebay if you keep looking, do a search in parts for 68 ford F100 and check every day.

had to install bendix when i converted from manual to power steering. The bendix you'll find in 67's only, ford after that. Mine turned out good but moved the column int o the cab by about an inch, which makes for a weird feel

................For a PS conversion(early77) you will NEED a heavy duty PS box from a 78-79 f250 , 4x4 . I bought mine off ebay for 150 plus freight . You will also NEED the Center Link (pn#45-2418) p.97 in the current LMC catalogue . A rebuilt PS sector box will run around 300 plus a rebuildable Core . The reason I purchased a "used box" and paid the freight goes thusly .....If you Don't have a Core and you purchase a REbuilt box they will charge you ...UP TO 200 for the Lack of a core . Now , I received my used core and DID the conversion and installed the old core with a NEW set of seals installed . IT has very little play and is working out very satisfactorily . IF , the OLD Box had proven to be TOO worn I would have purchased A REbuilt box and used my OLD core to keep from paying the "core Charge . So , it ended up that I didn't have to purchase a REbuilt core . WHY purchase a Rebuilt core when it isn't always necessary??? Others may feel differentially!!sk

Retro-fitting 78-79 ps sector

Thanks Skuteman. This was straight bolt up, no frame mod? I assume I can order a center link for 78-79 from any parts house?

............NO....this is NOT a strait boltup!! The Best way to effect the the PS conversion is to buy the COMPLETE KIT off of ebay for about 800 . NO, welding involved , just drilling of some holes and maybe a little torch work . LOTS of early 73-77 and earlier Hiboy owners have installed this KIT and are extremely satisfied with the results . sk

If your going from manual to power steering and just want a bolt in job, find a bendix unit. If you go with a ford unit, you will either have to find a power steering column or have your manual steering column modified by getting it cut about 2 inches for a proper fit. If you dont get it cut, the steering wheel will be all in your gut!
